14/05/02 Another award for Bergkamp
Before the match against Everton Dennis picked up the award for the Premiership Goal of the Season for his superb effort against Newcastle, Arseweb reports. Dennis won this award also in the previous Double season 1997/1998.
12/05/02 Season is over
The 2001/02 season was magnificent for both Arsenal and Bergkamp. Arsenal took, as you all know, the Double and Bergkamp was back at his best: he played in 46 matches, scored 14 goals and gave numerous superb goal assists. This 33-year-old Dutch Destroyer showed that 'the Bergkamp Wonderland' still exists and we'll surely see more of that in next season.
12/05/02 Double party at Highbury
Bergkamp celebrated his 33rd birthday (d.o.b. 10/05/1969) by showing his best skills against Everton in the last match of the season. Within four minutes Dennis opened the scoring: Ashley Cole got the ball from Alan Stubbs and crossed into the danger zone. Dennis was alert and had the simple task of slotting the ball past Steve Simonsen. After a half an hour Arsenal made it 2-2 when Bergkamp was the provider as he shrugged off the challenge of David Weir before pulling a perfect pass back for Henry who converted into an unguarded net. Great action to help Henry in his quest for the Premiership Golden Boot. Just five minutes before the full time Dennis provided another one. He disguised a swinging ball to find Henry in space. A deep cross and there was Jeffers to squeeze in a header against his old club. Bergkamp played the full 90 minutes, with the match ending 4-3 for Arsenal.
10/05/02 "I've never been so happy!"
Bergkamp talks about the Double: "What can I say about last night? All I can say is that I've never, ever been this happy in my entire career. How can I explain how important it was to win it at Old Trafford?" more...
09/05/02 Arsenal takes THE DOUBLE!
A magnificent 1-0 -win over Man Utd at Old Trafford was enough for Arsenal to secure the title. What a week! Bergkamp couldn't play due to a heel injury.
06/05/02 Bergkamp: Selling Stam was critical
After the marvellous FA Cup win, in which Bergkamp played 70 minutes and almost headed a goal, Dennis has said that Alex Ferguson's decision to sell Jaap Stam will cost Manchester United the title. Arsenal's non flying Dutchman says that while Arsene Wenger made the decisive move of buying Sol Campbell last summer as a rock of stability at the back, Ferguson made an equally critical decision by offloading his fellow countryman to Lazio two months later. more...

30/04/02 Wenger praises Bergkamp, DB staying
After yesterday's match Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said: "His (Bergkamp's) passing has been great in the last two months and he has been the provider for most of the goals. You do not find players like him on every street corner, and he is still sharp physically and has that kind of vision which is very rare. At the same time, Freddie times his runs very well when Dennis has the ball." Bergkamp is still only 32 - he's 33 next week - and he said: "I have one more year on my contract at Arsenal and I will be here next season. I have no doubts in my mind about that, none at all. That will also give me one more go at the Champions League and I want that. That is a very big competition and can give you special moments. After that I don't know. I don't want to be a player that will live on his reputation and drop back into midfield or whatever. I want to still be able to make those runs that are expected and move about the field."
30/04/02 Dazzling Dennis
Bergkamp two, Bolton nil. Arsenal's season-long unbeaten away record in the Premiership remained intact thanks to two perfectly-timed passes from Dennis to produce goals from Ljungberg - his sixth in five Premiership matches - and Wiltord, his 16th of the season. The opening goal came when Bergkamp He held off five (!) Bolton players on the edge of the area to time his pass to perfection as he spotted Ljungberg darting forward. One step forward, one step back and, having drawn his partners to him, he released Freddie with a perfect pass. One-nil to the Arsenal. Eight minutes later, Bergkamp's weighted pass down the inside-right channel found Wiltord sprinting clear and the French striker fired the ball through Jaaskelainen's legs. When substituted at the 70th minute, the Iceman got a well derserved standing ovation from the travelling Gooners. Dennis insists the Gunners will hold their nerve over the next nine days as they go in search of a second Double in four years. He said: "For now the next match is the cup final but the closer you get the more it reminds you of the 1998 season. There are similar things to that season but we must take each game as it comes, like we did then."
25/04/02 Another 2-0 -victory for Arsenal
Like against Ipswich, Arsenal had some problems in scoring goals during the first hour. The Gunners and also Bergkamp had a quiet first half, but in the second the team improved and Dennis was the provider of the winning goal, finished by the Super Swede Ljungberg. Dennis made the goal possible with a pass through the middle of the West Ham defence and Freddie was on to it in a flash to nip in and beat David James from close range.
22/04/02 Arsenal 2-0 Ipswich
The Double is still in sight! Bergkamp played 75 minutes in yesterday's crucial win over Ipswich. Dennis was one the best on pitch once again and almost bagged another superb goal. Just after the half time the Dutch Master saw his typical curling effort come back off the very inside of a post.
15/04/02 "We could have played better"
Bergkamp knows that our display against Middlesbrough in the FA Cup semi-final was below par. "It was not the best of games, but from Middlesbrough's point of view they did very well," he said. more...
14/04/02 Arsenal going to Cardiff!
Bergkamp celebrated the birth of his third child by leading Arsenal to the FA Cup final. Middlesbrough had more chances in today's semi-final but the Gunners managed to get a one-nil -victory. Dennis had a few good shots - the best one only an inch over the crossbar - but it was Gianluca Festa's own goal in the first half which was enough for Arsenal.

06/04/02 Arsenal smash Spurs
Arsenal got very important three points against Tottenham today. Once again Bergkamp was the provider in the first Arsenal goal when opened up the Tottenham defence and Ljungberg was onto it in a flash to clip his shot past the Spurs keeper. Dennis was the catalyst for everything positive Arsenal produced and the Dutchman's deft touch and vision was always a problem for Tottenham, who let him drift deep to do most of his damage. But while Bergkamp came close with a curled effort just before the break, Arsenal could still not rest on their laurels. Just ten minutes before the end of the game Sheringscum equalised from the spot. But only a few minutes later Lauren scored, also from the spot, the 2-1 winner. Dennis played the first 72 minutes and got a harsh yellow card, but still he was chosen the Man of the Match by Sky Sports.

01/04/02 Another 3-0 win for Arsenal
Bergkamp played 80 minutes in today's 3-0 victory against Charlton. He almost scored again when Henry slipped a perfect pass through for Bergy who skipped past Kiely to leave an open goal and it seemed the Dutchman must score. However, Bergkamp mis-hit his shot from an acute angle but such is the flow of momentum in the Gunners direction these days that the ball rolled gently into the path of Ljungberg who tapped home Arsenal's second from three yards. It seems that no team can stop the Gunners at the moment.

01/04/02 Bergkamp scores against Sunderland
I'm back from Easter holidays and the goal Bergkamp scored against Sunderland is now on the Multimedia -page. Arsenal won the match 3-0, and Dennis scored the second Gunners goal just after three minutes from a yard out. The Iceman also assisted Wiltord's first and Arsenal's last goal on the 30th minute. The quality of Dennis's pass was such that Wiltord just had to deflect it inside the far post.
26/03/02 Bergkamp targets Double after Pires blow
Dennis believes Arsenal can overcome the heartbreaking loss of Robert Pires and fulfil their Double-winning dream. Although The Gunners will badly miss Pires's contribution, Bergkamp is hoping his side can overcome his absence and go on to lift the Premiership and FA Cup without him. The Dutch striker said: "I think for the whole season and I have said it before this season, it would be very difficult for us not to win anything, so we have to try to get over the loss of Pires, and it remains our dream to go all the way to the Double."
23/03/02 Bergkamp leading Arsenal towards another double
Arsenal will face Middlesbrough in the FA Cup semi-final after beating Newcastle 3-0 today. Bergkamp was the star of the show, scoring one goal and assisting two. Just after a few minutes of play Bergkamp beat his marker in midfield and then superbly spread the ball into Pires' run to the left-hand edge of the box and Bob curled it inside the far post. Newcastle were stunned further seven minutes later when Pires turned provider for Bergkamp to put his name on the scoresheet. Wiltord played a superb ball down the left hand touchline to release Pires and, with the visiting defence caught flat-footed, the France international squared for Bergkamp to slot home from six yards. Just after the half-time Bergkamp delivered a wicked free-kick from the right and Given was powerless as Campbell powered home a header from six yards which flew into the roof of the net. Dennis also hit the woodwork, two times! "Dennis Bergkamp was brilliant. Everything he did was intelligent, clean and sharp. It was marvellous to watch, with perfect execution and intelligence," Arsene Wenger said after the match. See the Multimedia -page for the goal clip.
19/03/02 Bergkamp stays at home
Dennis has been left out of the Arsenal squad that travels to Turin for their crucial Champions League match against Juventus on Wednesday. Arsene Wenger decided to keep his Dutch striker fresh for Saturday's FA Cup quarter-final replay against Newcastle. Wenger felt that the journey by car to Turin and back would have left Bergkamp too jaded for the noon kick-off on Saturday.
18/03/02 Title hopes still alive
Another away victory for Arsenal with a 2-1 win over Aston Villa. Bergkamp played the first 75 minutes and had a few chances, including a first-time scissor kick which flew wide after a Dixon cross found him completely unmarked near the spot. Edu and Pires scored for Arsenal.

13/03/02 Arsenal lose to Deportivo
Disappointing 0-2 defeat to Arsenal against Deportivo yesterday, but it could have been the other way round. Early on Pires fed Bergkamp on the edge of the box, Dennis juggled the ball past a defender and hit a left footed volley which clipped the top of the crossbar. In the second half Dennis passed Ljungberg through who gained a penalty, but Henry's weak penalty was too close to the keeper. So no points for Arsenal, the match in Turin next week will be crucial.
10/03/02 No more miracle goals
Arsene Wenger decided to rest some key players in yesterday's 1-1 FA Cup draw against Newcastle, including Dennis Bergkamp. DB10 replaced Edu, Arsenal's goal scorer, after an hour of play. After entering the field Bergkamp almost released Wiltord with a glorious slide-rule pass, but Shay Given was alert and came racing off his line to just beat the French international to the ball and hack clear. After the game Wenger said: "Bergkamp needed a breather and the rest were injured. We needed a lot of commitment and character not to make the mistake that would have killed us."
05/03/02 1-0 to the Arsenal
Arsenal gained three vital points today with a 1-0 home win over Derby. On the 70th minute Bergkamp sent in Pires who slotted home the winning goal with his right foot.

05/03/02 Bergkamp holds key for Gunners
Six months ago Dennis Bergkamp was a lonely, miserable figure, bemoaning his bit-part role in Arsene Wenger's new-look Arsenal. Now, after a wonder goal against title rivals Newcastle, the 32-year-old Dutchman finds himself as one of the pivotal figures in Wenger's assault on a Treble. more...
03/03/02 Bergkamp keeps scoring wonder goals
Dennis Bergkamp's magnificent strike and Sol Campbell's powerful header kept Arsenal's unbeaten away record with a superb 2-0 victory over Newcastle at St James' Park. After ten minutes of play Robert Pires flew towards goal and curled a pass to Bergkamp with his back-to-goal. Simply controlling it with Nikos Dabizas paying close attention seemed tough, yet the Dutchman flicked the ball to his right, turned to his right and with the defender beaten, slotted coolly into the bottom corner. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger purred: 'It was a real Dennis Bergkamp goal - he only scores great goals. If anybody wished to make a collection of great goals, that would be very high up.' Bergkamp was looking sharp after his fabulous strike and five minutes before the break he won a free-kick on the right flank five yards infield. Then he followed up with an expertly delivered free-kick which afforded Sol Campbell, who thrust himself in front of Dabizas, the opportunity of ending the game as a meaningful contest with a powerful downward header at the far post. Arsenal nearly made it 3-0 when Lauren ran on to a Bergkamp pass only to see his low shot deflected into the the side netting. After 69 minutes the Dutch destroyer had done his job and was replaced by Kanu.

28/02/02 Bergkamp's magic sinks Leverkusen
Arsenal produced a thoroughly convincing 4-1 Champions League victory over Leverkusen that sends us to the top of Group D. It was all Arsenal, and often Bergkamp was the main threat to the Germans. In the first goal Bergkamp's run created the space for Robert Pires to score his 10th goal of the season. Then Dennis brought the ball forward down the middle, before pinpoint passes saw the ball move wide right to Wiltord than back across goal to Henry who nutmegged the keeper and it was 2-0 after just eight minutes. Bergkamp later had the ball in the back of the net again, but that effort was ruled out for offside in a close call. On the 83rd minute came DB10's masterclass in scoring goals from just about any position. First, he shrugged off the challenge of Ballack and then he somehow sent the ball floating over a stranded Butt and into the back of the Leverkusen net. Again, it was a truly breathtaking finish, as fine a chip as anything seen at this ground. This was a night to remember.
22/02/02 Bergkamp is January's Player of the Month
Dennis has been voted the Arsenal.com Player of the Month for January (30% of all votes). "The Iceman had an outstanding month, scoring the winner in the F.A. Cup game against Liverpool and then a brace in our hard-fought victory over Blackburn. It's been a while since Dennis last won this accolade; in fact, the last time was in the 1997-1998 season, when he won the August, September and October titles (the only player to win three in a row) and then the Player of the Season award. With nine goals to his name this season, Dennis is proof that class doesn't diminish with age", the official site states.
21/02/02 Bergkamp to Russia?
The most hilarious transfer-rumour about Bergkamp so far: TribalFootball reports that a Russian agent has claimed that Dennis Bergkamp is hoping to end his career in the Russian league. FIFA agent Igor Zavgorodniy told Moscow newspaper Zhizn: "Arsenal's Dennis Bergkamp asked me to help him move to play in Russia when he finishes at Highbury."
20/02/02 Bergy's holiday in Germany
Bergkamp drove to Germany to face Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League Phase 2 match. Despite his long trip, Dennis didn't feature in the match as Ray Parlour got a red card in the second half and Arsené Wenger was forced to strengthen his defense instead of putting in DB. The match ended 1-1 after Ulf Kirsten equalised in the last minute of the game.
05/02/02 Bergkamp appeal rejected by FA
Bergkamp's appeal against his dismissal during Arsenal's FA Cup fourth round tie against Liverpool has been turned down, following recommendations by the FA's Video Advisory Panel. The ban will see him ruled out of this Sunday's FA Barclaycard Premiership trip to Everton, the following weekend's FA Cup tie with Gillingham or Bristol Rovers, and the February 23 league clash with Fulham at Highbury.
03/02/02 Arsenal still rusty at Highbury
Arsenal got only a point from Southampton in yesterdays 1-1 draw at Highbury. Bergkamp was in the starting line-up and was replaced by Edu on the 71.minute, just ten minutes before Sotuhampton's equaliser. At first half Wiltord's goal broke the deadlock five minutes before the break, as he switched play across to Pires and was there to stab home from close range when Bergkamp failed to finish off Henry's cross. But Soton managed to score one and that was enough to secure an away point.

30/01/02 Two more for Bergkamp
Dennis bagged two in todays 3-2 win over Blackburn. On the 14th minute a cross from Wiltord, being helped by a deflection, was met by Bergkamp who scored with a nice left-footed shot into the centre of goal from six yards. And an hour later an accurate Pires pass split the Blackburn defence for the Iceman to score his second with a low shot under Friedel. Dennis has really showed his true skills again after Wenger gave him the long-awaited chance for regular first XI football. Hopefully he can keep his place in the starting line-up after Jeffers and Kanu return soon.
29/01/02 Bergkamp ready to appeal against red card

27/01/02 Dennis leads Arsenal towards FA Cup trophy
Arsenal hold on to beat Liverpool with only 9 men after both Martin Keown and Bergkamp were sent off. But still it was Bergkamp's superb header into the far post on the 28th minute which won the game for Arsenal. Henry was the provider with a pinpoint cross from the left and the Dutchman's flicked effort gave Liverpool keeper Jerzy Dudek absolutely no chance. At the end of the first half DB just failed to connect with a spectacular volley from Ashley Cole's cross to double the lead. Arsenal were reduced to nine men on the 70th minute when Dennis got his red for a two footed challenge on Jamie Carragher, but the team could hold on and the 5th round is waiting.
23/01/02 Superb away form continues
This time it was Leicester's turn to lose to Arsenal at home. Bergkamp saw his 20-yard effort deflected for a corner and a 20-yard effort saved at the first half. Also Henry wasted a good chance when put through by his Dutch teammate. But then van Bronckhorst scored the first goal and Henry made it 2-0 followed a fine Bergkamp through-ball after 42 minutes. The last Arsenal goal in the 3-1 victory was scored by Wiltord, who replaced well-played DB on the 79th minute.
21/01/02 Another 1-1 draw for Arsenal
Bergkamp started yesterday's match against Leeds sharply. However despite the Dutchman's clever movement his touch failed him on two occasions when he had a half-sight of goal in the opening minutes. Then right on the half-time whistle, Bergkamp's through ball was dummied by Henry, and Pires, who had initiated the move, burst clear as Jonathon Woodgate was caught on his heels. The left-footed finish more than matched the build-up, arrowed high into the net at the near post. Now it was 1-1 after Fowler had opened the scoreline after six minutes. The rest of the match wasn't so good for neither Arsenal nor Dennis, and Wiltord came on with 20 mins to go for Bergkamp who was quiet in the second half.
14/01/02 Arsenal 1-1 Liverpool
Bergkamp came on in the 55th minute to replace Kanu, who had been struggling since being kicked in the first half. Arsenal's attacking looked more effective with Dennis involved and a goal seemed inevitable. He found his touch from the start and soon the Dutchman's delightful ball released Pires and, in a move that mirrored Arsenal's winner at Anfield last month, Ljungberg raced in to meet the France midfielder's cross for his seventh goal in nine starts. But it took just six minutes from Liverpool and Riise to equalise. Bergkamp fired in one more good shot in a last minute effort to snatch a winner, but Dudek was able to save comfortably. Liverpool were happier with the result, judging by the reaction at the final whistle, but both teams remain in the chase for the Premiership title.

05/01/02 Ten minutes, one goal
Bergkamp got ten minutes from the end in today's FA Cup win against Watford. The Gunners won 4-2 with a superb display from Kanu, whom Dennis replaced on the 82nd minute. And just two minutes after coming on, Dennis tapped home the fourth Arsenal goal.

Again Dennis played the final twenty minutes after his toe injury, now against Middlesbrough in a 2-1 home win. Bergy came on for Kanu and he was the creator of the winning goal with a sublime diagonal pass into the box and Ashley Cole finished with a powerful header into the top corner.
26/12/01 Arsenal 2-1 Chelsea
Sol Campbell and Sylvain Wiltord scored Arsenal's two goals in this London victory. DB10 played the last 20 minutes.

16/12/01 Full 90 minutes for Bergkamp
Arsenal draw 1-1 with West Ham in the London derby but Bergkamp almost got all the three points for the Gunners. Dennis was sent free by a sharp Kanu turn but his venomous drive cannoned back off the underside of the bar with David James well beaten. Bergkamp again saw an effort deflected just wide in the closing moments. "Arsenal always do better in the second-half of the season so I would say yes, there is no reason why we can't win the league. I tell you, there's a feeling in the dressing room that the best is yet to come from Arsenal this season." DB said about Arsenal's title chances after the match.
09/12/01 Arsenal scores three in the second half
Today Arsenal beated Aston Villa in a thrilling Premier League match at Highbury. The Gunners were 0-2 down after the first half but in the end Henry sealed a 3-2 victory with an extra time goal. Bergkamp was in the starting eleven and managed to make numerous key passes. Class acts as usual.

05/12/01 Walking in the Bergkamp wonderland
Again Bergkamp played the last twenty minutes, this time against Juventus. Dennis sealed the Arsenal victory by assisting the last goal, made by Ljungberg, in the dying seconds; 3-1 for Arsenal. There was a classic bit of Dennis as he wriggled away from three tackles and held the ball just inside the corner of the box for ages before poking a delightful ball through for Freddie to run onto and lift over the outrushing keeper. Great goal, great victory.
01/12/01 Bergkamp on the bench again
Like on last Sunday, Dennis started on the bench against Ipswich. He came on in the 67.minute when Arsenal was just defending its 2-0 lead so not so much action in the Ipswich end.

28/11/01 Bergkamp shines against Grimsby
Bergkamp was often worth watching on his own in an otherwise efficient team performance against Grimsby Town in the League Cup. Arsenal won 2-0 with Bergkamp looking suitably out of place, his technique and vision standing out even next to some of his highly-prized team-mates. Dennis didn't score but assisted one with a perfect cross, landing between keeper and defenders, and Wiltord made it two-nil.
26/11/01 Arsenal beats Man Utd again

Gustavo Poyet equalized in the 94th minute and gained a well deserved point for Tottenham in this North London derby. 27/10/01 Mixed week for Bergkamp
Bergkamp, back to his brilliant best, struck one classy goal against Mallorca on Wednesday. Gio van Bronckhorst supplied an inch-perfect cross from the left and the Iceman rose to send a powerful header booming into the top of the net. Today against Sunderland Dennis played only the last five minutes, with Arsenal drawing 1-1.
20/10/01 Dennis gets his 4th
The Dutch master played the full 90 minutes and scored once but still Arsenal could get only a 3-3 draw against Blackburn today. Dennis was in a good playing mood and almost scored a few goals before he finally hit the target on the 53rd minute. Pires' ball back from the byline found Bergkamp and the Dutchman's shot was on target and just too powerful for Friedel to keep out. DB10 continued his string of fine shots and passes but still we could only get a point today, after David Dunn scored the last goal on the 89th minute.
17/10/01 Bergkamp on the bench again
The Iceman replaced Sylvain Wiltord on the 71.minute against Panathinaikos. No feat of valours for Dennis but Arsenal managed to win 2-1 with two goals from Thierry Henry.
14/10/01 Dennis returns, Arsenal wins
Bergy returned yesterday to play against Southampton after an ankle injury. He got to the pitch on the 75.minute and almost even scored a goal. Maybe we'll see him on the starting eleven next Tuesday against Panathinaikos in the crucial Champions League match.

29/09/01 Bergkamp injured
Dennis missed Wednesday's trip to Greece because of his fear of flying and also today's match against Derby because of an ankle problem sustained in training this week. Even without Bergkamp Arsenal won Derby 2-0 with two goals from Thierry Henry.
23/09/01 Bergkamp gets a red for Bolton, still no win
Bergkamp played the whole game against ten-man Bolton. Little later after Dennis had forced a solid save from Finnish keeper Jussi Jaaskelainen, on 29 minutes Henry spread the ball quickly to the galloping Bergkamp. It was a straight race between the Dutchman, who was through on goal, and Ricardo Gardner. The Bolton midfielder pulled back Bergkamp and was sent off by referee Wilkes. Arsenal had greater efforts but we could not break through, and the match ended to a disappointing 1-1 draw.
20/09/01 Arsenal beat Schalke 3-2

16/09/01 Bergkamp scores in the last minute

11/09/01 No Spain for Dennis
The Iceman didn't travel to Spain to face Real Mallorca in this season's first Champions League match.
08/09/01 Draw in the the London derby
Bergkamp was in the starting eleven for today's match against Chelsea. Dennis played as a wide striker just behind Thierry Henry and Sylvain Wiltord but didn't show his best. Henry and Hasselbaink were the scorers in this 1-1 draw. Jimmy Floyd saw also red for an elbow on Martin Keown in the second half.
04/09/01 Bergy scores for the reserves
As Dennis doesn't play at international level anymore, Wenger decided to give him a reserve match against Tottenham yesterday. Bergkamp caused the Tottenham defence real problems with his skills and scored once in the 4-0 victory. On the 10th minute Grimandi released Bergkamp with a well-weighted through ball, and the Dutch master - in a carbon copy of his two against Middlesbrough - rolled the ball past the diving 'keeper and into goal. Three minutes later Grimandi released Bergkamp identically, but this time he was unfortunate to see his first shot parried and the follow-up rebound off the post. In every respect a great performance from the Iceman.

Arsenal trained goal-scoring yesterday against Barnet and won their last friendly 6-1. Bergkamp played the first 62 minutes and also scored The Gunners' third goal just before the break on the 42th minute, dispatching his goal with typical clinicism. Earlier this week DB also took part to the match against Norwich City and played the last half an hour.
02/08/01 Roma beats Arsenal
