Bergkamp's banking on Munich trip
from football365.com

The Dutchman believes the German city is within his reach by car and is desperate to be involved in the game, which Arsenal need to win to make sure of their quarter-final place.

Wenger, however, put his foot down two weeks ago in banning Bergkamp from travelling to Lyon as he wanted to ensure the striker was properly rested for the Gunners' domestic campaign.

That the issue should raise its head again so quickly is inevitable, but certainly unwelcome for Wenger, who has had trouble in keeping all four of his strikers happy this season.

"I understood the last time that the manager had made a decision about away games. So we'll see, I don't know," said Bergkamp, after declaring himself ready and willing to travel.

"After last time, I would expect not to go. But it's a very big game and you'd love to be involved in that. Again it's the old story of the four strikers and all being capable of playing."

The Dutchman, who has a fear of flying, was driven to Barcelona, Florence, Lens and Copenhagen last season. And team-mate Thierry Henry, while respecting Wenger's eventual decision, revealed that he would take him (Bergkamp) next week to Germany if he was in charge.

While the Ukraine, Prague and Moscow were understandably off the agenda this season, Bergkamp was annoyed when Wenger forbade him from going to Lyon and made a joke about him being averse to trains as well as planes. It is an automobile that Bergkamp would use to travel to Munich, however. A large car in fact, giving him room to relax in the back, with his father-in-law at the wheel.

It would take them about two full days to drive to the southern German city, stopping off for the night on the way, and that means Bergkamp would probably have to set off on Sunday - if he is allowed to. Wenger said: "I don't know at the moment if Dennis Bergkamp will travel to Germany. I have to think about it but I don't really like players travelling abroad by road or train."
