Saturday April 6, 2002 Wenger hails award winner Bergkamp from arsenal.com Dennis Bergkamp has been hailed by Arsene Wenger after picking up the Barclaycard Premiership Player of the Month award. The dynamic Dutchman has been in stunning form recently - scoring some crucial goals as well as supplying perfect passes for his team-mates to score. His goal against Newcastle in the Premiership at the start of March is one of the leading contenders for goal of the season and he also netted against the Geordies in the FA Cup sixth round replay, as well as during our 3-0 win over Sunderland in the league. And Wenger is delighted with Bergkamp's recent displays, he said "With Dennis in the team you expect him to create chance after chance for everybody," said Wenger. "And with Robert Pires unavailable we rely more and more on that. "Dennis is really confident at the moment and as creative as ever, but what is different this season is that he looks more physically fresh. "Maybe that's because he has played less games this season, so he now looks very sharp." Picking a favourite Bergkamp goal is as difficult for the manager as it is for the fans. "The Newcastle goal at St James's was a great goal and it was very important because it was the first goal and it gave us the belief we could win. "From a technical point of view, the third goal of his hat-trick at Leicester in the Double season was very good because it had everything, but it's difficult to choose because he only scores great goals. "But personally, I actually like the goals he scores with his head - like the ones against Real Majorca and Dynamo Kiev. "When you see how good he is technically at heading the ball it's a shame that he does not score more like that. "Also, I don't get to see my team score many headed goals, so when they happen I always enjoy them!" |
