Wednesday April 13, 2005 Bergkamp waits for deal from skysports.planetfootball.com Dennis Bergkamp is still waiting to learn if he will be offered a new contract by Arsenal. The veteran Dutchman is out of contract in the summer but has yet to be rewarded with fresh terms by The Gunners. Bergkamp signed a 12-month deal last year but the signs are that it is increasingly unlikely he will be prolonging his ten-year stay at Highbury. The forward's agent Rob Jansen confirmed that there has been no indication from Arsenal regarding a new deal for Bergkamp. "There is no news," Jansen told the Daily Star. "There has been no contact and Dennis and I are still waiting." The 35-year-old only signed his present deal towards the end of last season but it appears Bergkamp could be one of the old guard shunted out to make way for the younger brigade. Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is keen to rebuild his team and, while Bergkamp's class is appreciated by his team-mates, his advancing years may end his spell in North London. Reports also claim that, should Bergkamp not be offered an extension, he will call time on his glittering career. |
